This is a reminder to anyone who didn't see or respond to this blog. We need to know if you guys are interested in doing this before we plan it.
Hey there guys! I'd like to get our first field trip planned, so here is my idea...
I think the Norton Museum would be a great place for our first meetup, as it has a large lobby and reception area to gather in for the initial meet-up and a cafe in case we're there for a while and need re-fueling. There is also a lovely garden in the middle of the museum to walk around in if it stops being so damn cold. The museum is only around a 20 minute drive from Fort Lauderdale, where most of us seem to be located. I'd have no problem car pooling some Ft. Lauderdale people up to West Palm if you're concerned about gas or finding the place.
"The Museum is internationally known for its distinguished permanent collection featuring American Art, Chinese Art, Contemporary Art, European Art and Photography. From its founding the Norton has been famous for its masterpieces of 19th century and 20th century painting and sculpture."
Not only is the museum worth visiting for the permanent collection, which is so large and varied that it's housed in a 5 story building, but they always have some sort of interesting exhibition going on. If you're interested in coming, check out this list of their current exhibits and let us know if any of them interest you in particular so we can figure out dates: www.norton.org/Exhibitions/Cur…
I'd personally like to go after March 19th, when this collection will be displayed: www.norton.org/Exhibitions/Cur… It may be the only chance we'll ever get to see some of these awesome works, especially the Rembrandt stuff, before they go into storage.
